The time has come to re-address the cell phone/electronic communication device policy at Westover Park as we are experiencing an increase in the misuse of these devices during the school day. Although the posted CISD policy is to have all cell phones turned off from the time that a student enters the building to the time that they exit at 3:45, Westover Park has adopted a less restrictive procedure that provides students with a limited opportunity to use electronic devices under certain circumstances and conditions. The challenge before us is that many students exceed those allowable circumstances and conditions, and therefore are in violation of the school procedures. In speaking with students the past several weeks it has come to our attention that we may have made assumptions about their understanding of the procedures which are not accurate. Therefore, between now and the Break on December 16, we are going to make a sustained effort to re-educate students, and their parents/guardians, about the policy and procedures that actually do exist. A letter of explanation will be going home with your student on Friday, December 2, so we request that you take the time to read through that information.
