On Thursday, May 7th, our CERT (Campus Emergency Response Team) ran our tornado drill in an effort to improve our procedures and update us on the latest information regarding safety during a tornado or other severe weather.  The information we receive from running the drills allows CERT to make adjustments to our procedures so that we have the

best plan in place in case of an emergency.

The students at Reeves-Hinger Elementary did a great job of being calm, quiet, and listening to the adults.  Everyone got to the safest location efficiently and safely.  There were times that we had to make adjustments to the locations, and student were very patient as we worked through those issues.  Be sure to ask your son/daughter what their job is during an emergency and if they have any questions or concerns about safety at our school.

It is important as a family to discuss safety at home as well.  Talking through the following can help save lives when you have little time to make those quick decisions.

  • Do you have a plan and know where to go at home during a tornado?
  • Do we have a “safety bag” packed and ready to go with emergency supplies?
  • Do we have a way to listen to the weather?
  • Do we know what the sirens sound like when we need to seek shelter?

Please see the National Weather Service website for more information:  www.weather.gov
