Conjunctivitis, commonly called "pink eye", is swelling (inflammation) or infection of the membrane lining the eyelids and part of the eyeball. Symptoms can include one or more of the following:
Redness of the eye(s)
Blurred vision
Crusts that form on the eyelid overnight
Eye Pain
Gritty feeling in the eyes
Increased tearing
Itching of the eye
Sensitivity to light
The Texas Department of State Health Services requires that children with conjunctivitis, either bacterial or viral should be excluded from school until physician permission to return is issued or until sympton free.
