Student Transfer

The Canyon Independent School District has a limited policy providing parents/guardians an opportunity to request for their children to transfer from one CISD campus to another within the district.  Parents/guardians who desire to transfer their child must verify that the desired school is “open” for transfers, and then complete the district Application for Indistrict Transfer form. Applications for the 2008-2009 school year will be available on the Canyon ISD website until June 15, 2008.

Open Campuses

The following campuses are open for transfers for the 2008-2009 school year. Students may apply for transfers into these schools, but are not guaranteed an approval.

  • Crestview Elementary

  • Lakeview Elementary

  • Canyon Intermediate

  • Greenways Intermediate

  • Canyon Jr. High

  • Westover Park Jr. High

  • Canyon High

  • Randall High


Criteria for Considering Parent-requested Indistrict Transfers

  1. Transfers are allowed on a space available basis only.
  2. General transfer requests are accepted only during the specified time period of April 1 - June 15.
  3. Transfers are approved for one year only and must be renewed each year with an application.   
  4. Parents must provide their own transportation.
  5. Parents must be willing, in some situations, to forfeit as much as one year of UIL eligibility for their child.
  6. Parents must prove residency within the Canyon ISD each year.
  7. A campus may send a transfer student back to the home campus if the campus reaches capacity or if there is failure to maintain the qualifying criteria.

Qualifying Requirements for Parent-requested Indistrict Transfers

  1. Appropriate attendance
  2. Grades of at least 70 in all classes
  3. Passing scores on each of the most recent state assessments
  4. Excellent behavior

Terms of Transfer

  1. Students who receive a transfer are expected to remain in the transfer school for the entire year. 
  2. Transfer requests for siblings of transfer students will be approved on a space available basis.
  3. An approved transfer into a campus does not guarantee approval the following year or continuation throughout the feeder pattern.

Students Who Move Out of the District

Students who begin their senior year (12th grade) as a resident in Canyon ISD and then move out of the District may continue to attend for the remainder of their Senior year.  This Board policy only applies to seniors.  Students in grades K-11 who move out of the district must withdraw at the end of the current six weeks grading period.

Children of Employees Transfers

Full-time employees living outside of the CISD boundaries or inside CISD boundaries will be allowed to request a student transfer into CISD to a campus where space is available.  Please contact Angie Latta at 677-2616 for details.

Co- and Extra-curricular/Athletic Transfer Eligibility

University Interscholastic League guidelines on eligibility as it relates to transfer students shall be strictly followed for all extracurricular activities.

Administrative Reassignment Transfers

Administrative reassignment transfers may occur at any time and are not subject to the same procedures as parent-requested indistrict transfers.
