The Whole Child Approach and Parent Involvement
Here at The Latino Family Literacy Project we make every effort to be aware of the latest developments regarding parent involvement and family engagement in the schools. More and more, we are hearing about the whole child approach, which has five key elements: healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged. A child should come to school healthy and be able to learn in a safe environment where he or she is engaged in learning, supported by adults, and challenged to be one’s best self.
As part of that interest, we read, listen, and watch. We recently had a chance to listen to a podcast called Partnerships Between Home and School: The Real Missing Link? Take a listen.
Engaging with parents is key. That is why The Latino Family Literacy Project provides training workshops to increase parent involvement.
