How Community Partnerships Help Prepare Canyon ISD Students for the Future
Preparing students for life beyond graduation takes more than academic instruction. It takes opportunities to build confidence, develop strong work habits and learn from challenges. At Canyon ISD, our community partnerships play an important role in helping students develop these skills.
On October 13, Canyon ISD welcomed local business leaders, educators and community partners to Happy State Bank Stadium for our Fall Business & Community Leaders Luncheon. The event provided an opportunity to share district updates, strengthen relationships and discuss how we can work together to prepare the next generation for success.
Connecting Education and Business
This year's theme, “Service with a Smile,” explored how successful organizations build cultures where people feel valued, take ownership of their work and strive to do their best.
The event featured a panel discussion with representatives from Chick-fil-A and First United Bank:
- Allie Brinza, Owner/Operator of Chick-fil-A South Coulter Street
- Garrett Ragland, Shift Lead Assistant at Chick-fil-A South Coulter Street
- Stuart Sutton, President of Rural Markets for First United Bank
- Adam Bandy, Senior Vice President of the Canyon Market for First United Bank
Moderated by Kirstyn Tarr, Coordinator of District Communications, the discussion highlighted the importance of leadership, accountability, mentorship and developing strong workplace cultures.

Lessons That Extend Beyond the Workplace
When asked what young people need to succeed in the workforce, panelists emphasized three important qualities: confidence, the ability to accept feedback and a strong work ethic.
They encouraged educators to give students meaningful responsibilities, establish clear expectations and provide opportunities to learn from mistakes. These experiences help students develop independence, resilience and the confidence to take on new challenges.
One memorable moment came from Garrett Ragland, who encouraged students to find a mentor who will hold them accountable, challenge them to improve and offer honest feedback. He emphasized that a mentor doesn't have to work in a student's chosen career field. What matters is finding someone they respect who is willing to invest in their growth.
These insights reinforce the important work happening in Canyon ISD classrooms every day, where educators help students build the skills, habits and relationships that will serve them long after graduation.
Strong Partnerships Build Stronger Futures
Canyon ISD's Business & Community Leaders Luncheons are about more than bringing people together. They create opportunities for educators and community leaders to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and invest in the future of our students.
The district extends its appreciation to our panelists from Chick-fil-A and First United Bank for sharing their experiences, along with Schneider Electric and HTeaO for their support of this year's event.
We are especially grateful for the businesses, educators, families and community members who continue working together to create meaningful opportunities for Canyon ISD students.
Preparing students for lifelong success is a shared responsibility. Through strong community partnerships, we can help students develop the confidence, character and skills to succeed wherever their futures take them.
