Canyon ISD Career & Technology Education

Canyon ISD Career & Technology Education

Career & Technology Education (CTE) at Canyon ISD gives students opportunities to explore their interests, develop real-world skills and prepare for life beyond high school. Through hands-on learning, career-focused programs and industry-aligned experiences, students can explore a variety of career pathways while building the technical and professional skills today's workforce demands. Many CTE programs also provide opportunities for students to earn industry-based certifications, participate in work-based learning and gain valuable experience before graduation.

Work Based Learning Opportunities

Canyon ISD connects classroom learning to real-world career experiences through a variety of work-based learning opportunities. These programs help students explore career pathways, develop professional skills, earn industry-recognized credentials, and gain valuable experience that prepares them for success beyond graduation.

Real-World Internship and Shadow Experience (RISE) Program
Canyon ISD's RISE Program connects students with local businesses and industry professionals through internships, job shadowing, and career exploration opportunities. Students gain firsthand exposure to workplace environments, explore career interests, and develop valuable skills that prepare them for future education and employment.

Clinicals
Clinical experiences provide students pursuing healthcare careers with supervised, hands-on training in real medical and healthcare settings. Students apply classroom knowledge, develop essential patient care skills, and gain practical experience while exploring careers in the healthcare industry.

Practicums
Practicums allow students to apply classroom knowledge through structured, hands-on experiences in professional settings. By working alongside industry professionals, students strengthen technical skills, develop workplace competencies, and gain practical experience in their chosen career pathway.

Internships
Internships connect students with local businesses and organizations for meaningful, real-world work experience. Through supervised workplace opportunities, students build professional skills, explore career interests, and gain firsthand insight into industry expectations while preparing for future employment.

Job Shadowing
Job shadowing gives students an inside look at potential careers by observing professionals in their everyday work environments. These experiences help students understand job responsibilities, workplace expectations, and industry practices while making informed decisions about their future career pathways.

Industry-Based Certifications (IBC)
Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs) are recognized credentials that validate students' knowledge and technical skills in specific career fields. By earning industry-recognized certifications, students can demonstrate career readiness, strengthen their resumes, and gain a competitive advantage when pursuing employment or postsecondary education. While certifications are not work-based learning experiences themselves, they complement hands-on career training.
