Yes. CISD Choice is available for students entering grades 9–12. Students must complete the application process and meet academic readiness requirements. 

Before acceptance into the program, Canyon ISD will review academic records, assessment data, attendance history, and overall student readiness for independent learning.

Students Transitioning from Homeschool

Current homeschool students must:

• Complete grade-level diagnostic testing

Incoming 9th Grade Students

Current eighth-grade students applying for their freshman year must:

• Meet grade-level standards on applicable STAAR assessments
• Pass grade-level MAP assessments in reading, math, and science

Current High School Students

Current high school students will complete grade-level diagnostic assessments in:

• Algebra I
• English I

Yes. CISD Choice is a public school option offered at no cost to eligible Texas families.

Advanced Placement (AP) courses and dual credit opportunities are available through Texas Tech University  K-12. Any associated fees are the responsibility of the student/family.

No. Coursework is delivered online and completed asynchronously, giving students flexibility in their daily schedules. Students are expected to actively participate in coursework and maintain academic progress.

Attendance is based on:

• Daily login activity
• Coursework participation
• Assignment completion

Yes. CISD Choice follows the Canyon ISD academic calendar. Because coursework is self-paced, students may continue working during scheduled Canyon ISD breaks if they choose.

At this time, students accepted into CISD Choice are not eligible to participate in extracurricular activities, including athletics, fine arts, and UIL programs. Canyon ISD will communicate any future updates if participation opportunities become available.

Yes. Students enrolled in Canyon ISD must complete all required state assessments under Texas law.
