A teacher sees a new way to help a student learn. A student group wants to serve its community. A new educator is preparing a classroom for the first time. A graduating senior is getting ready to take the next step after high school.

For more than 25 years, the Education Foundation of Canyon ISD has helped support moments like these.

Founded in 1999, the Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization that raises money to support Canyon ISD students and staff. Through donations, grants, fundraisers and community partnerships, the Foundation provides resources for educational opportunities that may not be covered through traditional school funding.

Simply put, the Foundation helps connect the generosity of our community with the needs and great ideas found inside our schools.

Every gift helps the Education Foundation invest back into Canyon ISD students and educators.

 

What Does the Education Foundation Do?

The Foundation's support reaches Canyon ISD classrooms, campuses, teachers and students in several ways.

• Educator Grants

Sometimes a teacher has a great idea but needs additional resources to make it happen. Through Excellence in Education Grants, Canyon ISD educators can apply for funding for projects and professional learning opportunities that enhance education for their students.

Foundation grants can help provide things like literacy resources, intervention materials, classroom technology, hands-on learning tools, special education resources, curriculum programs and professional development opportunities. These grants give educators another way to think creatively about what their students need and bring new ideas into their classrooms.
 

• Student Leadership Grants

The Foundation also invests directly in students who want to make a difference. Canyon ISD student groups working with a faculty sponsor can apply for a Student Leadership Grant of up to $200 for service projects that benefit their school, community or beyond. Applications are accepted throughout the year, giving students the chance to take an idea for helping others and turn it into action.
 

• Student Scholarships

For Canyon ISD seniors, Foundation support can continue beyond graduation. Each spring, the Education Foundation provides scholarship opportunities for graduating seniors, helping students take their next steps toward college, career training and their future goals.
 

• New Teacher Start-Up Grants

The Foundation even begins supporting educators before they welcome their first students of the year. At the start of each school year, every new Canyon ISD teacher receives $50 in start-up funds from the Education Foundation. It may seem like a small gesture, but it is one more way the Foundation welcomes new educators and helps them begin their Canyon ISD journey with support from the community behind them.

 

A Community Partner in Our Schools

The Education Foundation is separate from Canyon ISD, but its work is centered around supporting our students and educators.

The nonprofit is led by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of people from across the Canyon ISD community, including parents, district staff and administrators, alumni, and local business and civic leaders.

They share a belief that strong schools help build strong communities.

When our students have more opportunities to learn, lead and grow, the impact reaches far beyond the classroom. Today's Canyon ISD students will become tomorrow's employees, business owners, educators, healthcare professionals, volunteers and community leaders.

Investing in their education is also an investment in the future of our community.

 

Where Does Your Donation Go?
