Canyon ISD Connect | Free & Reduced-Price Meals: Benefits Beyond the Cafeteria

Did you know that qualifying for free and reduced-price meals can provide Canyon ISD families with benefits that extend beyond the cafeteria?
What does qualifying mean for your family?
- Cafeteria Meals
The Free & Reduced-Price Meal Program helps ensure students have access to nutritious meals at school, regardless of their family's financial circumstances. Eligibility is based on federal income guidelines, and for the 2026–27 school year, qualifying Canyon ISD students can receive breakfast and lunch at no cost.
- Reduced Chrome Book Fees
Qualifying for free and reduced-price meals can also help families save on annual Chromebook fees for junior high and high school students.- Junior High: $25 annual fee reduced to $15
- High School: $40 annual fee reduced to $20
- Canyon ISD Kids After School Program
Canyon ISD Kids provides after-school care from 3–6 p.m. on instructional days at participating campuses. Families who qualify for free and reduced-price meals also receive 50% off tuition for the Canyon ISD Kids after-school program after paying the $52.50 registration fee.
- Dual Credit Courses
For high school students, qualifying can also mean significant savings on college courses. Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals can take eligible dual credit courses through Amarillo College's Badger Bound program at no cost. Without this benefit, dual credit courses typically cost families approximately $150 per course, per semester. That means completing the free and reduced-price meal application could help your family save money now while also creating opportunities for your student in the future.
Who may qualify?
Eligibility is based on factors including household income and participation in certain assistance programs. Students may also automatically qualify based on circumstances such as participation in SNAP, TANF or FDPIR, or status as a foster, homeless, runaway or migrant student.
